• ~ 17th June , Wellington Animal Action meeting on the pig factory farming, 7pm at the Newtown Community Centre, (Corner of Colombo and Rintoul Streets). Everyone who is concerned about factory farming and wants to help abolish it is welcome to attend. The meeting will feature video footage taken on local pig factory farms, speakers from Wellington Animal Action will explain why factory farming should be stopped, and how you can help stop it. • ~ 17 June, 'The Failed Papakura Experiment' Steve Baylis (Papakura District Councillor) Public Meeting, 7 pm at the Dowse Art Gallery. The sale of the Pencarrow Group on 21 June by Mayor John Terris and the City Vision Team is largely based on the failed Papakura model. Now they are threatening to do the same with other Hutt City assets. The meeting is organised by the Positive Focus Group.
  
  

• July 25 - Power Vigil by Candlelight (Social Services Sunday), all parishioners in the Christchurch Diocese are asked, on the night of Social Services Sunday, July 25, 1999, to reduce their power consumption where possible, for the evening. As part of this, parishioners are also asked to replace their electric lighting with candles for this special evening as a shared silent vigil witness with other parishioners.
  
  Parishioners are asked to do this as part of their shared action to tell Southpower that its recent 13% increase in power charges is not acceptable, especially for the many on low and very reduced incomes.
