      Info, vigils and letters

      15 September 2001
       Kia ora,
Information - we have now set up an index page to which statements
from peace groups, articles, vigil details and so on will be uploaded on a
regular basis. This is to limit the amount of email traffic sent out to
our lists. The index page is at www.converge.org.nz/pma/usatresp.htm
Emergency response vigils - as in the past when bombing attacks have
been imminent, we are currently putting together a list of 'emergency
response vigils' around the country - a specific time and place for people
to meet on the day any bombing starts, which can be advertised in advance
to as many people as possible in each town and city.
If you (or your group) has already decided these details for your
locality, could you please send them on to us as soon as possible. If you
(or you group) can be the contact person for your locality, can you please
also let us know as soon as possible.
To add you to the list we need to know: the time, the place, the
telephone number and/or email address (if the email is cleared regularly!)
of the contact person/s. Please put 'Vigil' in your subject heading and
      send your details to PMA@XTRA.CO.NZ
Confirmed details - WELLINGTON : on the day any bombing starts, meet
at 5pm at the Cenotaph (cnr Bowen St, in front of the Beehive), contact
      details are PMA@XTRA.CO.NZ, tel (04) 382 8129.
Suggestions for what you can do - we're currently putting together a
'suggestions for what you can do' alert based on the enquiries and
comments from people contacting the office, those we've visited, and
statements and articles we are receiving. However, the sheer volume of
email traffic, faxes and phone calls is rather daunting at this time so
that alert will not be finalised until early next week.
In the meantime - as a matter of some urgency, please contact your
local MP, any list MPs in your area, Helen Clark, Jim Anderton, Mark
Burton, and the Cabinet (which meets on Mondays, hence the urgency) and
urge them not to offer any military support or assistance to the US
government or anyone else planning military attacks. Contact details are:
      Helen Clark, Prime Minister, office - tel 04 471 9998, fax 04 473 3579;
      Jim Anderton, Deputy Prime Minister, office - tel 04 471 9011, fax 04 495
      8441; Mark Burton, Minister of Defence, office - tel 04 471 9715, fax 04
      495 8465; The Cabinet collectively), office - tel 04 471 9743, fax 04 472
6332. If you don't know your local MPs contact details, you can get them
from the switchboard at Parliament tel (04) 471 9999.
Finally, it would be extremely helpful if you could print off and
circulate messages from PMA to the members of your group who do not have
access to email - the chances of us being able to post copies to our
mailing list at the moment are not high.
